Am I a godly mother?
Ever have days where you struggle with motherhood? Are you stuck in a constant loop of, did I feed them healthy enough, Did I play with them enough, was I too harsh? (Guilty!) As all these thoughts flood my mind, I often lay in bed in self pity, wondering what I am doing as a mother. This brought me to the thought, am I a godly mother?
I did what I always do when I have a question about life, I dug into the bible. And with every verse, I felt a weight life off my shoulder. And I want to share with you, because in Gods eyes, you are doing great.
Psalms 34 11
Come, my children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord
As mothers, our job is to raise our children to fear the Lord. We need to instill in our children, that our Lord is mightier than any of us could imagine, and our eternity lays at his feet. We must teach them to love & respect our God.
Deuteronomy 6 6-7
6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
We must show our children all that God has done for us. Show them all the blessings, from the big to the small. Sometimes its easy to talk about the huge blessings, but the small ones are just as important, and its important for us to explain that to our children.
Proverbs 23 13
Do not withhold discipline from a child;
if you punish them with the rod, they will not die.
We have to discipline our children, it is our job as parents to raise our children to be loving, and respectful. So we do have to teach them right from wrong, even if discipline isn’t easy, it is necessary.
Galatians 5 16
16 So I say, walk by the Spirit,l and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
We must instill values on our children. This is where the Holy Spirit comes in. They need to know right from wrong. Luckily for us, we have the Holy Spirit within us, and that is the voice telling us from right from wrong.
At the end of the day, God doesn’t care if there are some dishes in your sink, or if your kids had chicken nuggets for dinner. (Because lets be honest, we have ALL been there!) What God cares about, is that we are raising our children to love and respect him. To know right from wrong, and move them on the road to Jesus!
